The present moment is no big deal

You can stop ‘trying to be more present’ by seeing just how normal it all is 🤗

In my role as a local Dads Advisor, I get to spend quite a lot of time with babies, and I have to say, I'd forgotten what fun it is.

Babies are awesome.

It's a massive cliché, but one that I've seen has real legs, that ‘Children are the best teachers’.

And there's a very good reason for that – it's because the younger they are, the more present they are.

Unencumbered by the trappings of a Thought System that's collected a load of nonsense superstitions and outside-in rules that it's trying to get you to live by, babies and little kids take it as it comes, experiencing one moment of perception after another.

Which is something Richard Carlson alludes to in a chapter of one of his books, entitled Learn from Kids as they Live in the Moment – a snippet of which I read in the video, below.

As usual, he stops the show with his very first line:

“To experience life in the present moment is not a mysterious endeavour, nor is it any big deal.”

Honestly, we make such a big deal about this thing we call ‘the present moment’ when the stark reality is, we can’t experience anything else!

Even when you’re up in your head fretting, you’re still right here, right now… you’ve just not noticed.

So this is a plea to stop making out like you’re separate from the Now; that the present moment is this hallowed thing that you’re striving to spend more time in.

Nonsense! You can’t be anywhere but! You’re already there!

Just take note of all the things that distract you from its riches (it’s a pretty comprehensive list in the video) and maybe be a tad more aware of where your attention is alighting.

Where is yours, moment to moment?

  • Is it on the distracting narration 💭
  • Or is it on life? ♥️

If you want an easier time of it, here's your Daily Reminders-sanctioned recommendation:
