You don't need to apply insights

It's so tempting to try and take insights and ‘use’ them somehow, but that's not how it works 🔧

Here’s a thing that happens frequently.

I’m having a coaching conversation with someone.

We’ve fallen into the space of insight, where the intellect/ego has gone a bit quiet and they’ve really seen something about the nature of the experience they’re having. Life suddenly all makes sense.

They visibly relax. Maybe smile. Breathe.

(It’s a bit like waking up from a bad dream… the relief is palpable, even over Zoom!)

And then I see them start thinking again, and their mind will project into the future and imagine a repeat difficult situation, and it’ll innocently try and figure out how what they’ve just seen, might apply to that imagined, future situation.

And they’ll say something like,

“Right. I get it. What I need to do is just… [x, y or z]”

Or,

“So next time that happens, what I’m gonna do is… [a, b or c]”

And it doesn’t work like that!

You don’t need to do anything, because what we’re looking at here is Principles (i.e. just the way something works).

Once you’ve seen something very differently, things just change. They don’t look the same!

It’s actually Key Message #2 in the FOUNDATIONS Module of the RECONNECT course I run:

🔑
Key Message: Real change doesn’t require willpower, but INSIGHT

Or to hijack the famous Maya Angelou quote,

“Do the best you can until you know better.
And when you know better, do better.”

Keep reading the Daily Reminders, slow down from time to time to reflect on how they're playing out in your own, every day experience, and just watch what happens.

There's nothing to apply!

With so much love,

💟

This is not a philosophy
“I love your philosophy!” is kind, but it’s also kinda missing the point 🤔
