We had our Daily Reminders Group Call the other day, and as I was reading out a couple of questions that people had sent in I spotted an identical phrase that cropped up in both of them:
Those on the call will have observed that it stopped me dead in my tracks, in that way that insight tends to – something I didn’t quite understand (intellectually) but that came with a deeper feeling of ‘rightness’.
Enough of a feeling to give pause.
Because in each of those questions, what followed—the content—was very different. An expression of the human.
The illusory separate self, manifest.
But what came before—“I am noticing”—was exactly the same. An expression of the being.
One.
And of course our experience of life is both these things:
- Human. And being.
- Form. And formless.
- Humanity. And divinity.
- Left brain consciousness. And right.
- Psychology. And spirit.
- Distraction. And presence.
- Experience. And “I am noticing” experience.
It got me thinking that “I am noticing” is a great metaphor for who-we-really-are.
Not “I am the noticer” – that’s a slippery slope towards the creation of yet more thought-created ego identities.
No, simply the noticing.
Being (v.)
Maybe this is what they mean when they talk about an ‘inner eye’.
Or ‘look within’.

p.s. If this Daily Reminder (or anything else, for that matter!) serves up that “deeper feeling of ‘rightness’” then I recommend actually taking the pause it’s offering you. Not trying to figure it out, but just resting in the not knowing for a bit.
Because this is how change occurs.
