How long does change take?
Hang on, you’re right, that’s a rubbish question, a bit like “How long is a piece of string?”
What about this then:
How quickly can change occur?
Ah, now I’m on more solid ground.
Because it's not unusual, when people sign up to a package of sessions with me, that they don't use them all! We come to an agreement to put any remaining sessions ‘in the bank’, saving them up for some figurative rainy day in the future.
I’m always delighted when this happens, because it means the client got exactly what they came for and their life has changed irrevocably as a result… just in a quicker time span than the 6 sessions I usually offer.
Now, while the G.E.C. (Giles Ego Construct 📦) would love to take credit for these miraculous turn-arounds, I actually put it down to two things that have got nothing to do with ‘me’ whatsoever:
1. The nature of the work
The first thing is the approach I use.
It’s not one where we get together, roll up our sleeves and set to work on figuring out how we’re going to solve your problems.
(Too boring! 🥱)
Nor is it an approach that involves digging around in past history, trying to figure out why you feel the way you do.
(Too harsh! 😢)
I’ve never worked either of those two ways with anyone, so I can’t say for sure, but I suspect that those approaches can take a lot more time.
(In a former life I had therapy myself and it went on for ages! 💰)
No, the nature of the work I do is to look at what a problem (any problem) actually is.
And usually, as a result of that, the solution to the problem appears, all on its own, in one of those “Oh why couldn’t I see that?!” moments of insight.
The client gets what they came for.
And as an added bonus, because they’ve now got a very different perspective on ‘problems’ in general, their whole life improves, downstream.
(Have I told you before: I LOVE MY JOB!! 🥰)
2. The nature of insight
The second thing is the actual driver of that change.
Syd Banks—whose teaching has affected the lives of countless people across the globe, and is the basis of all the work I do—had an insight so profound that it kicked off the entire 3 Principles movement, from just ONE sentence that someone said to him!!!
🤯
(You can watch him talk about how that happened, here: Sydney Banks – The Insight. Slow right down and just let it wash over you. It could change your life ✨)
And because that’s the way that makes sense for me to work with people too, everything can—and does, from time to time—change quickly, utterly, and permanently at any point of us working together.
Between you and me, although I'm no longer surprised, I'm still a bit shocked, every time I witness change like this happening.
Because a heavy burden that's been carried for a long time—sometimes decades!— feels like it should (🚩) be more difficult or painful to shift, somehow.
And yet I've seen, time and time again, that life-altering, long-lasting change is so often just one thought away.
Not because my clients’ problems are small—they're not—but because they've never been examined through the lens of their own Innate Health.
So if there's something in your life that has felt intractable for a long time, in spite of all you've tried, then I'd love to help you take a proper look at it.
Because you too might be (very pleasantly) shocked at the results… so much so that you get your very own sessions in the bank.
