A trusted system

How using the right tool for the job can unleash the creative force of life 🌊

Did you know that a cup of tea without milk can make you throw up, if you drink it on an empty stomach?

No, neither did I, until it happened to me.

It’s something to do with tannins, apparently.

I forgot to take a teabag out one morning (for about 10 minutes 😬), drank it anyway and found myself hurling, a further 10 minutes down the line.

🤮🚽

Ever since then, “2 minute green tea, please!” has been a real thing in our house.

Which of course needs a timer, because… well, it’d be like a game of vomiting roulette, entrusting that kind of thing to my left brain, hah!

And you know what always happens?

I pour the water in the mug, set the 2 minute timer on my watch, carry on doing whatever it is I’m doing…

…then all of a sudden there’s this buzzing on my wrist.

📦🗣️: What the hell’s that all about? Some sort of To Do reminder going off or something? An email through?

[Looks down⌚️]

Oh!

😮

☕️🤦🏻‍♂️

The craziness of how easy it is to completely forget the tea—so quickly!—once I’ve outsourced the menial task of remembering to a trusted system (i.e. a device, with a timer), makes me chuckle every day.

Consciousness! If something’s not in it, it literally doesn’t exist.

Setting that timer is all about using the right tool for the job, isn’t it?

I mentioned the other day, how planning can enrich our present-moment experience, and now I’ve finished putting together the 1h40min Creativity Video Masterclass (which is brilliant!) I’m even more convinced that the key to being more creative is about understanding what tools to use, how, and when.

Because when we really understand how something—a creative process, a mind—works, then it all just makes sense and goes in the right direction, pretty much of its own accord.

We don’t have to fight it any more.

It’s like the fresh perspective we’ve been given on it all unlocks something, and things just flow.

And creative flow is where it's at!
