āThere is no corner to turn!ā
š²
Such a simple, but profound observation, related to me by a client (thank you for letting me share š)
A philosophy to live by, even.
Because, how much of our lives do we spend with this invisible belief driving all our behaviours?
- Raising children⦠itāll be better when Iāve turned the corner.
- Advancing through a career⦠itāll be better when Iāve turned the corner.
- A financial situation⦠itāll be better when Iāve turned the corner.
- Relationship difficulties⦠itāll be better when Iāve turned the corner.
- Mental health issues⦠itāll be better when Iāve turned the corner.
- Spiritual growth⦠itāll be better when Iāve turned the corner.
Weāre so focusedāinnocently, I must addāon tomorrow being better than today, that we donāt actually get to live life!
You donāt ever get to experience it. Thatās just a trick of the mind; itās ego, dangling ānot thisā in front of you like a carrot on a string that youāll never reach.
Indeed, itās this comparison with what-can-never-be (an idea of perfection) that keeps us miserable and stuck and makes reality appearāto the mind, at leastādull, when held up against this fantasy.
Itās a game you canāt win.
So next time you catch the mind wishing your life away, just remember: this is it. This is what I get.
THISāright here, right nowāis life!
By all means take action (you canāt not do, really) but do it from this place of understanding. Itās got a very different feel to it.
There is no corner to turn.
Youāre already there.
