The person in ‘personality’

What is ‘personality’? Is it fixed and does it matter? A short reflection 📽️

Someone asked me a question about their personality, for an event I ran, once. They felt as if they behaved like two different people in different circumstances: sometimes in a nice way, and sometimes not so nice.

Ring any bells?

And while we’re at it… what does that tell you about the notion of a ‘personality’?

If in some situations we behave one way, and then at other times we behave quite differently, how is any of this fixed? How can it be applied as a label of ‘who we are’?

What even is the experience of ‘having a personality’? (Because we sure as hell like to base a lot of our decisions and actions around them, don’t we?!)

In this week’s video, I explore that a little further… something to bear in mind next time you find yourself saying, or thinking:

“Oh that’s just not me.”

When you’ve seen what ‘me’ really is (or more accurately, isn’t), you might find your choices in life suddenly grow much wider.

If that’s got you pondering, next go and have a read of this Guardian article, entitled: Are you really the ‘real’ you?

I found this to be a spellbinding read - more grist to the mill when it comes to this made up notion of who we are, and how we think we should be.

There are no rules, but the rules programmed in to our computer minds… it’s just data in, data out. 🖥

Stay curious, people!
