The other day, in the βSunday Spiritualβ Daily Reminder, when we were discussing the notion of separate realities, I casually mentioned that some animals see different colours from us. If you missed that one, you can read it here:
But did you know that other animals donβt just see different colours, they inhabit completely different realities from us?
And as I was writing, I recalled that I have spoken about this previously, in one of my Video Masterclasses. Itβs a phenomenon called βUmweltβ and itβs absolutely fascinating!
Hereβs a short (2 min) video of me talking you through how it worksβ¦ and of course the IMPLICATIONS for you:
In true Inception fashionβ¦ the video I reference within that video can be watched here: https://bigthink.com/series/explain-it-like-im-smart/animal-senses/ (9 mins) π¦
As they say, in the accompanying blurb:
Every animal has its own thin slice of the fullness of reality that it can detect, known as βumwelt.β
Even though we all inhabit the same planet, each species experiences it very differently.
No animal can sense everything. There is so much sensory information in the world, that detecting all of it would be overwhelming. Itβs also unnecessary for survival.
And hereβs the key: Of course we are animals on this planet and of course we are one of those species.
But within us, between us β each of us gets our own thin slice of the fullness of reality; each of us experiences life very differently; each of us is entirely unique.
Just like everybody else.
