There’s a great story in one of Steve Chandler’s books, where he talks about going to Alcoholics Anonymous (it’s ok that I’m telling you, it’s in a book, he’s already outed himself) and how on the wall there’s a sign that says:
He explains that for the recovering alcoholic, the idea of having to go your entire life without a drink is just too much to comprehend; too big a job. No way you’re signing up to that. Biggest barrier going!
And then someone explains to him:
“You don’t need to quit drinking forever.”
Say what?! I thought that was the whole idea.
Nope, it’s: “Just for today, don’t drink.”
😲🤯
That takes so much pressure off, it seems like cheating, in some way!
Can it really be that simple?
Well… it’s all you get to actually experience: Now.
So what looks like your ‘biggest barrier going’?
What aren’t you doing because it looks like it’s a venture that’s too big a job?
Well… what if you don’t actually have to do the whole thing?
(There’s a reason why the Getting Things Done™ methodology really focuses on the Next one physical action.)
🤷🏻♂️
Or maybe you’re slowly coming to terms that you’re addicted to thinking… but the idea of leaving that abusive relationship ‘forever’ fills you with dread. It’s just too much to comprehend.
Well… what if it’s not ‘forever’ at all?
What if it’s just for this moment… letting whatever’s concerning you pass on through that beautiful mind of yours; not attaching to it, not acting like it’s true.
🤷🏻♂️
It’s the sort of game you can really have some fun with.
A whole new world opens up.
And if you need some help with that, get in touch and tell me what’s going on.
It’s what I’m here for.
