That would be nice, wouldn't it? I mean, how many times have you caught yourself, fretting in the wake of yet another insult that life has strewn in your path, thinking:
Aaaargh, I feel like I need to be a bit more… resilient! 🥹
It's a funny one, this word. People have all sorts of feelings about it, and reactions to it. (As I guess you would if, for instance, you have a boss that insists you need to “be more resilient” in the face of collapsing, under-resourced services. 🤨)
So before we go any further, let's look at the origins of the word. What does it actually mean? Let's take a trip to etymology corner:
To experience resilience is to ‘jump back’. But from what, to what?
Here's where a grounding in the Innate health understanding is really going to help you out, because you already know several facts about how you experience the world – and all those life-insults that seem to demand resilience of us.
There's this one, for instance:
You can't experience anything else. Which kind of puts paid to resilience and this ‘jumping back’ being something that's time-based, doesn't it? Hmmm, curious.
🧐
And what about this one?
That's right – 100% of our experience comes from within. It's a map, not the territory itself. Hmmm, more to ponder.
🧐
So, hang on… if the sum total of what we actually get to experience as humans—Now—is Thought-perception, then surely ‘resilience’ has got to be something to do with that?
Could we be ‘jumping back’ from one state of consciousness (i.e. attending to the content of our thinking), to another (attending to Now)?
Could that be what resilience is?
Well, would you look at that?!
😲
And you know the great thing about ‘inbuilt capacities’? They don't require any building, or working on.
You just need someone to point you towards them.
Because they're part of who and what you are.
