This is just too good – one morning, our daughter decided to give everyone’s mind a name.

What goes on in that child's head?! 😆

😂🤣

How this came about, I don’t know, but it was hilarious when it did.

I absolutely *love* that she called her own **“Jobert”** – it’s such a pedantic-sounding, jobsworth kind of idiot to have living in your head.

Mum didn’t fare so well – Rho chose **“Flizz-bobatt”** on her behalf, and I can’t say it’s really stuck.

Then came me.

> “Dad, what do you call yours?”

> *“Giles.”*

> “But you *are* Giles!”

> *“No I’m not… That’s just a… I’m actually… Oh good lord it’s all too complicated for this time of the morning – I’ve not even had coffee yet!* 🥴 *OK, here you go – when I write about mind-stuff, I refer to it as the G.E.C.* 📦 *or the “Giles Ego Construct.” Is that any good?*

…and this is what she produced: **“The great egotistical construct of camomile stew.”**

Ha ha ha ha ha!! 😂

---

### Anyway…

The good news is, this is already bearing fruit, because it’s starting to get her detached from her thinking – to stop identifying it as actually *being* her.

🙌🏻

All three of us have, on occasion, suggested that **Jobert’s** being particularly judgmental, or demanding, or pernickety… and it’s really put a different spin on things for her.

It must be said though, that currently she’s not great pals with **Jobert**—*“I *HATE* Jobert!!!”* has been heard bouncing off the walls on more than one occasion—so little by little I’ll be encouraging a more benign relationship, where **Jobert** is seen for the well-meaning, innocently over-protective dufus that he is.

Something to be understood and treated with empathy. (Because you can’t get started too early on ‘self’-compassion, can you?)

---

Of the three Croft family mind names, only **“Jobert”** has really stood the test of time, and is proving to be a useful metaphor, going forward.

I’m not sure I’ve really taken on board this “G.E.C. camomile-stew” name she’s given *my* mind.

At all!

Thankfully, this is not the first time she’s assigned me a new name.

Years ago, for reasons known only to her (that she found *very* funny indeed), she proudly produced the following for me, which I think is a far more suitable moniker for that noisy simpleton in my head:

“Jeff the toilet”!!!! 🤣

With love as always…

💟

Giles (aka **“Jeff the toilet”**)

p.s. Have you named yours? If so, what do you call it? (Let us know in the comments, below.) And more importantly, are you NICE to it???
