I was taking the recycling out, late last night, ‘minding my own business’ (i.e. innocently thinking about the Giles Ego Construct 📦 and all its perceived problems), when I happened to look up.

Proper dark, Autumn chill, a cloudless night and… STARS!!!

🌌 ✨

It absolutely stopped me in my tracks.

I put the bags down and just stood there, gawping, until my neck began to hurt.

I mean… STARS!!! Suns in distant galaxies, just *carpeted* across the night sky.

I don’t know why it hit me so hard - maybe I haven’t looked up for a while? Maybe I haven’t been outdoors in the dark for ages?

I mean, I’ve *seen* them from the window (my daughter and I spotted Saturn from her bedroom, just the other night.)

But there’s no substitute for that expansive mantle of glittering light in the heavens.

It’s the most awe-inspiring thing.

My mind went instantly silent and I felt… well, no words will do it justice. It’s beyond description.

It was an experience that has nothing to do with words, or knowledge, or belief.

It was just amazing. And has stuck with me all today, really helping me to put things into perspective.

(Realising my problems were thought-created, I sacked off work and went out on my bike 😆)

So tonight, if it’s clear, pause the telly and stand outside looking at the stars for a few minutes.

It’s the perfect reset.
